# SVG Repeat Pattern Generator > Create a seamless, editable SVG pattern from simple shapes. Make repeating dots, squares, diamonds, stripes or checkerboards with adjustable spacing, color and opacity. Preview and download a self-contained SVG with an optional transparent background. Part of usefulweb.app (https://usefulweb.app/). Results are deterministic calculations from the inputs and the listed assumptions; the API returns exactly what the web page shows. ## Use it - Human interface: https://luminarepeatpattern.usefulweb.app/ (interactive tool at https://luminarepeatpattern.usefulweb.app/tool) - JSON API: POST https://luminarepeatpattern.usefulweb.app/api/v1/calculate with a JSON object of inputs (schema: https://luminarepeatpattern.usefulweb.app/api/v1/tool) - OpenAPI: https://luminarepeatpattern.usefulweb.app/openapi.json - MCP (Streamable HTTP): https://luminarepeatpattern.usefulweb.app/mcp - tool `lumina_repeat_pattern` ## Inputs - shape (select): Mark shape - width (integer): Canvas width (px) - height (integer): Canvas height (px) - spacing (integer): Tile spacing (px) - size (integer): Mark size (px) - foreground (text): Mark color (six-digit HEX) - background (text): Background (six-digit HEX or none) - opacity (number): Mark opacity ## Method - A square SVG pattern tile uses user-space units, so its spacing is measured in the canvas coordinate system. - A centered dot, square, diamond or horizontal or vertical stripe repeats across the canvas. Mark size is bounded by tile spacing; for stripes it is the band thickness. A checkerboard uses two squares in diagonally opposite half-tiles, and its mark size cannot exceed half the spacing. - An optional solid background lies below the pattern; foreground opacity applies to the marks. The SVG embeds no external assets. - For a reliably repeatable canvas swatch, make both dimensions multiples of the tile spacing.
